Over the next couple of months I will be posting a weekly update of the events around the Battle of Isandlwana and then following on with the Battle of Rorke's Drift. This will be done through my camera rather than writing a historical report of the events, as there is an abundance of books and information on the web for anyone interested in a more in depth and accurate understanding, regarding these two historic events of the Zulu war.
I will try and cover the main events as best I can but I am limited by what I have in my collection of figures and terrain and also by the size of my table, which is 7' x 5'. There will be quite a few inaccuracies, reasons as mentioned above and also because I have tried to portray scenes both historically and from the film 'Zulu', so please don't take this little project to seriously as it has just been a bit of fun, putting the different aspects of this hobby together and sharing it with you on this blog.
ISANDLWANA 22nd JANUARY 1879
Lord Chelmsford has marched out before dawn with roughly half his force in the attempt to bring the Zulu to battle. He left approximately 1,700 British troops and their African allies to guard the camp at Isandlwana under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Pulleine of the 1/24th.
The camp at dawn........
Infantry outposts posted around the camp.
NEXT WEEK.........The alarm and 'Fall In' sounded.
