SOLDIER, SAILOR & HORSE - Back of Beyond - The Reds.

My friend Steve Lygo will be pleased that I have just finished painting some Reds for his Back of Beyond collection. I will be going back to WW2 plus some terrain and buildings next, before painting his Whites and Chinese Warlord collections, sorry Steve but you will have to wait a little while

 I will show the colours I have used for painting the bases for these figures, as Steve also has someone else painting Back of Beyond figures for him and he wants the bases to match.

 

If you live in the UK then we have Do It Yourself stores named B&Q. They sell water based household paint that come in test pots for about £2 and you get a lot more paint than you would for the same money from your hobby paints. This makes them ideal for painting the bases on your figures and also your terrain. B&Q do a range called Valspar Collections, The Bookcase.

 

They have a good range of earthy colours which make them ideal for any groundwork and they have a nice matt finish. 

    

 After basing and priming the figure I paint the first layer of ground colour onto the base, before I actually paint the figure. I find this quicker as you can just slap it on with a big brush and not worry if it goes over the feet and legs of the unpainted figure.

 The colours I use are as follows -

Start with the darkest colour and then drybrush with the lighter shades, finishing off with Vallejo Ivory.

 

On with the Reds. I have painted five units of foot and two horse.
