Napoleonics

Here are a few pictures from my Napoleonic collection. I am unable to find the majority of my photo's so I will take some more in the New Year which will include French Infantry, Heavy and Light Cavalry and some Artillery.

These are all from Perry, the British Line are from the plastic box set including the flags. The 95th Riflemen are also plastic apart from the command which are metal and come from the Perry Dutch/Belgium Naps. At the time of painting these, the Perry's hadn't brought out command figures for the 95th but now they have and they are on my lead pile waiting to be painted.

There are also a couple of conversions amongst the 95th, I have used plastic arms and a bare head from the French plastic box set.

I have a lot more Napoleonics primed and waiting to be painted but it all depends on what grabs my attention at the time, at the moment I am heavily into painting Empress Miniatures British for the Zulu wars.

Next up will be Perry plastic Mercenaries from their War of the Roses range.

Merry Christmas to you all and thanks for visiting this blog.

War of the Roses

My first batch of WotR using Perry's plasic figures with metal mounted command.

Robin Hood and his Merry Men

I had a few unpainted Lord of the Rings characters spare and unpainted which I thought would be ideal to use for Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
Scale wise, these fit in well with Perry or Foundry HYW figures. Some of the pictures also include Perry plastic War of the Roses bowmen.
I just need a suitable Little John figure now.

Perry's ACW

When Perry Miniatures first brought their plastic ACW range out, I purchased a box each of their Cavalry and Infantry. I thought this would be ideal with 12 mounted figures and 36 infantry figures to split the contents and have enough figures for small skirmish type games representing both the North and South. With these plastic figures it gives you the opportunity to try a new period and not break the bank, box sets costing £18 but you can pick these up at the shows for £15 a box. I have the dismounted cavalry and horse holders to paint up at some point in the future and will definitely add to this collection with all the new stuff the Perry's have added to the ACW range.

You can see in the last two pictures that by using a little green stuff (plastic putty), it is fairly easy to convert the figures and give them more of that campaign look with rips in their clothing, beards etc. The Infantry box set also has quite a few marching figures (see above), so some of these were converted slightly to make them more useful for skirmish type games.
I was planning on posting pictures of my WW2 collection but as I am unable to find the pictures of these I will take some new photo's and post these in the New Year.
So, next batch of pictures to post will either be Napoleonic or War of the Roses.

North West Frontier

The figures in these photo's are mostly Foundry with a few Perry figures from their Sudan range.
When I took these photo's the terrain was rather green, future NWF and Sudan photo's will be on  more appropriate looking terrain that I have already made.

Some of these figures were painted using Army Painter (Afghan's and Guides). I have used the black undercoat method of painting figures for many years and then when AP came on the market I experimented with this for a while. It gives a reasonable result in a very fast time, which was great for reducing the lead mountain. I gave up with AP in the end though as I found the contents in the tin went off after a few times of using and this makes it very expensive to use.

I have stayed with the white undercoat when painting figures but now use washes over a base coat and then highlight up from there.
